Presentation Juan Alfau
Greetings. Before posting any article or going into actual matter, I wanted to explain who I am, what I will be writing about, why I’m writing it, and also to explain a little of my expectations of the blog.
Who I am.
My name is Juan Alfau. I’m a civil engineer and currently a MSc in Smart Cities and Communities candidate with concentration in Sustainable Urban Planning, Energy, and Transport at Heriot Watt University. I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, but thanks to a lot of sacrifice from my parents and scholarships granted by Tecnológico de Monterrey and European Commission I was able to study my bachelor in Mexico and MSc in Europe respectively. After finishing my bachelor, I worked as Civil Engineering Coordinator in the construction of Michelin’s new plant in León Mexico. Later on, I moved back to the Dominican Republic and became a member of the family’s construction business. Subsequently, the time for the masters arrived.
Coming from a Caribbean developing country, and having the opportunity to live in five others, have immersed me in different cultures and enriched my global perspective, giving me the opportunity to adapt very quickly. Besides all the curricular information, I am a person who enjoys a lot sharing dinners, jokes, conversations and a drink with others. I also consider myself a sports enthusiast, since I follow many and can perform relatively well in a few of them, especially baseball, tennis and golf. When it comes to music, I like hearing almost any kind.
Why I am writing
First of all, I would like to thank my friends Miguel and Javier for the invitation to create this blog. I’m a true believer that all kinds of education and knowledge are key for person’s progress. Taking this into consideration, the main reason why I decided to join Sustainable Knowledge was to use it as a motivation to keep myself investigating and learning about today’s disruptive topics. The second reason was to create an archive of the facts and ideas that are shifting our world.
But I don’t want this to stop there! Besides finding a motivation for myself, I would love to wake on readers and friends the same interest. Not interest on the same topics that published here, but the interest of becoming a knowledge enthusiast. In other words, being seriously curious about a broad variety of topics, doing your research and drawing your own conclusions.
Since our world is constantly changing, and vast number of concepts, ideas and trends emerge every day, it will be almost impossible to deeply dig into all these fields. It will fulfill me a lot if at some point this blog evolve into a space in which people who comprehend a topic share their knowledge and interact with others, making it easier for all of us to acquire new learnings. As a friend once said, we all need to speak up and share because group wisdom is very powerful.
What I am writing.
The topics which I’m interested in writing about technology, sustainability projects, finance, energy, and people that I found exciting and inspiring.
